Coaching for Contentment and Fulfilment

Purpose and the Removal of Impediments
Everyone has one or more life purposes.  These provide focus for our lives and help us to attract into our lives everything we need to satisfy our purposes.  Coaches can help their clients by encouraging them to be as clear as possible about their present day life purposes.
Everyone’s inner world is cluttered with impediments but to varying degrees.  Impediments can include compulsions, obsessions, addictions, phobias, defence mechanisms and other kinds of inflexibility.  These impediments interfere with our ability to be effective and cause unnecessary heartache.
The primary route towards removing impediments is through awareness.  Coaches can help their clients to become more aware of their inflexibilities resulting in their clients having greater freedom of choice.  Without awareness of their extreme positions our clients are slaves to their inflexibilities.  With awareness of alternative positions and their associated outcomes our clients are more able to choose responses that suit the circumstances.

Deprogramming and Reprogramming the Mind
And then there are the matters of deprogramming and reprogramming the mind.
The mind is divided into 2 parts: the rational mind and the intuitive mind.  Either or both of these can become blocked or impeded.  Ideally, the rational mind needs to be tidied up and the intuitive mind needs to be freed.

And, ideally, both of these minds need to be made fully operation so that the rational/intuitive mind system works as an integrated unit for the purposes of being productive without heartache.
A Life Coach with an uncluttered rational mind can help clients in this area.  A Life Coach with a free and spontaneous intuitive mind can help clients in this area.  And, a Life Coach with a self-regulating rational/intuitive mind system can help clients in this area. And, the ideal Life Coach/client relationship needs to be a collaborative and mutual one to some degree.  We should be working with our clients to tidy up the rational mind in each of us, to free up the intuitive mind in each of us and to optimise the rational/intuitive system in each of us.

But, maybe, we Life Coaches should also be doing a lot of work on ourselves, removing the impediments associated with inflexibilities, thinking more clearly, being more intuitive and foster a great rational/intuitive mind system within ourselves.

In my experience it is the intuitive side of our minds that usually needs more work, both in ourselves and in our clients, and so perhaps we should aim to do more intuitive work on ourselves and with our clients.
I work a lot in visual metaphor—making up imaginative stories in the mind of the Life Coach and in the mind of the client.  This can be fun and revealing.  And, the stories can be interpreted if you like.  But, I believe that they can provoke positive changes even if they are not analysed.  They are particularly useful with clients who are reluctant, for whatever reason, to talk about certain areas of their lives in rational ways.
So having said a few words about deprogramming the mind I will say something about reprogramming it.
Reprogramming is achieved by creating clarity of life purpose, clarity of life specialisation and clarity of values.  I have mentioned clarity of life purpose above.

We all have life purposes but we also all have one or more life specialisations.  My life specialisations are bridge-building and the transcending of adversity.  And, we all have values.

Life Coaches can help their clients by helping them to achieve high levels of clarity in all of these areas.  And, when it comes to values, we can help our clients to arrange their priorities in priority order with a view to getting their priorities right for action in any given moment.

Contentment and Fulfilment
Action based on all of the information above should lead to some noticeable improvement in the short-term with regard to getting better results with less heartache.  And, in due course, or in the fullness of time, high levels of contentment and fulfilment should come your way.

It will depend though, to some extent, on how ambitious you are.  Greater ambitions may take longer to realise and may require more hard work.  But people who are in tune with their life purposes, their life specialisations and their values usually don’t mind hard work or a bit of waiting.
